Been here before, huge can of worms this one :bigshock) although if I remember correctly, top end figures seemed to be around the 175 - 180 mark. Not that anyone can condone that sort of speed on the public highway, ahem :oops)

I haven't found the "top-speed" on my '03 yet, but I am quite clear in the fact that it does "Zero to Holy-Shit" in about 3.7 seconds!!! :P 8)

:sick) all i want to say is it's fast enough to kill three R1s flat out and thats just fooooookkkkiiiinnnnn fast, reading speedo only for a mili-nano second as i was clinging on for grim dear life, it was over 190 but everything including me was vibrating so realy hard to get true reading.
Done 180 with the co pilot and full hard luggage :D and there was more
left in the old girl.

I can honestly say that I have no idea how fast the 'bird can fly..... I've never looked down to see!!!! :D

After 160, there is no way I can take my eyes off that point 1/4 mile down the straight which is the only thing in my field of vision moving slowly enough to actually focus on

There just comes a point where you are driving so fast that you can't actually see any more, especially if you are above the screen, which, being 6'4", I can't really avoid!

I've seen 175mph twice on my '98. The old bird was still pullin hard as hell and I think I was turning about 7500 to 8000 rpm. At that speed the exit on the highway comes REALLY fast!

Photon Absorbsion

Postby space invader » Wed Dec 31, 2003 1:05 am

Simon S.

As anyone who has been watching the Royal Institution Lectures this year would know:

Absorbsion of photons of light on a BLACKbird would increase the molecular weight ever so slightly, (Not much, I'll grant you, but all the same), cause thermal expansion of the molecules in the fairing, causing it to become larger, and more unaerodynamic, and increase the temperature of intake air, making the engine less efficient. (See cold air-fast bike posts)

A WHITEbird travelling towards the sun would by the effect of reflection of photons suffer an equal and opposite reaction and be slowed, but with the added boost of the opposite effect from behind.... (Ooh Errr Missus...)

The pretty boy Blue and girly Pink ones unfortunately, suffer another physical affliction, of everyone they encounter either guffawing out loud, or gasping in astonishment at the audacity of the owners, being seen out in daylight, thus setting up air turbulence which makes them unstable in atmospheric eddys, with the result of slowing terminal velocity.

A Titanium xx on the other hand would confuse the photons into leaving it well alone, as they wouldn't be able to decide which colour it was, (Silver, Gold, Grey, Beige???) and to fcuk with something that strange looking would be to unsettle the laws of nature, thus allowing to continue on it's way unhindered.
Titanium xx s also enjoy the added bonus of pedestrians going "What the Fuuuu........??" as their heads turn to watch you go by, thereby adding a few extra picopuffs (technical term for a movement of air that I just made up!) of tailwind, again boosting your velocity.

I hope this scientific explaination will finally set this whole topic to rest, and that we don't have to go through all this again.

TSI

P.S. Then again, Titanium 'birds nearly always have a gorgeous girl perched on the back, which makes them considerably slower..... Bastid....
