You learn something every day even at my age
A few on here use the term Dude a fair bit, I know I do and Taz and Demon spring to mind also. I always thought it was an American word and looking in the dictionary it says USA/Canada - city dweller or a dandy- I take it that means a borderline poof- a bit Lawrence Llewyelyn?-Bowen I suppose.
However I've just discovered it's true origin- it is a made up word coined by Oscar Wilde and "friends" shortened from DUds with AttituDE. If that isn't Oscar calling someone a full blown poof at one of his dress fitting parties I don't know what is, therefore I apologise for my previous use of the word and will desist forthwith......unless I want to call you a poof that is .
No doubt Taz and Demon will continue to use it with a vengeance .
(for those from different parts where its probably dropped out of use Duds is old fashioned word for clothing)
