Terrar, Winnderz.

Yep - time to move away from the Microsoft Mess that's "Windows". :sick)

I've been contemplating this for some time now - and I'll be picking up a new iMac tomorrow. :thumbsup)

...Really fed up of all the crap updates, "new versions", drivers, screen freezes, crashes, security alerts and generally poor performance-delivery of Windows. I was fortunate to avoid Windows 8 - I'm intensely suspicious of Windows 10 - and I'm not best-pleased when I think about the shed-loads of cash I've spent through the years on new computers - just to keep pace with the advances in software! duh

It's a bit out of me comfort zone ... screwy

...been using MS Windows since the late eighties, but... 8)

...as the saying goes - "Go Mac, never go back"

...or summat like that, anyroad! lol

Why-for you hate Apple, Timbleweed?
Oldbull wrote:Is there not an android option available now ??? I also hate apple ..

...Et tu, OB? :|

I agree, there is a bit of control-freakery going on, but wait till Microsoft get in on the act! They're already levying annual charges for Office and stuff - Win10 isn't far behind. Get it "free", but YOU'RE the one who'll find all the bugs - all the hang-ups, all the crashes - and you'll PAY - IN COLD, HARD CASH - for that privilege.

...Remember - I TOLD Honda:

"Don't fook with the Blackbird - KEEP IT GOIN'" - but they ignored me and look what happened...

...Fookin VFR1200. :sick)

NOW - I'm sayint same ter Microsoft... THIV BIN WARNED! lol

My own research indicates that I could have bought ONE Apple Mac instead of the FOUR PC's, TWO external hard drives (because I didn't want to buy another PC), hubs, plugs, extensions - (electrical, ya coont!) - all the fookin Windows upgrades/"NEW" Windows editions since the year "Dot" PLUS all the shite previously mentioned.

If only I'd LISTENED to a former colleague who's upgraded his iMac hardware ONCE during the same period - and he's ALWAYS been "bang up-to-date" because Mac software is tested for YEARS before it's released and software upgrades are FREE of charge and FREE OF BUGS...

...OH-yeah. :thumbsup)

Here's the difference... Got me iMac today...

Started ripping all the PC stuff out this affy...

...I mean... this little lot has been growing for nearly twenty years and it's GOT TO GO... :evil)

Give us an update then Eric, what you got to buy, how much etc etc can you re -use monitor or is it all built in ..

better start goooglin while Im waiting ... :dunce)

theres two lappys and a desktop in our house all begging me to upgrade to windoze 10 :banghead)

All built-in, pal.

No external speakers/wires/plug adaptors/extensions... It's proper elegant is this!

A beautiful monitor - no external speakers required - makes watching films and videos an incredibly rewarding experience and the sound quality is FAN-fookin-TASTIC! :rockon)

A hundred quid or so for both Microsoft Office (for iMac) and a replacement for Photoshop - I'll probably have to replace Dreamweaver as I'm thinking of resurrecting DADoodles but there's other ways to do that...

Only downside is I don't think it's compatible with TomTom or Sena software - I've not searched as yet - but I think I might struggle a bit there. :pullhair

The rest is just learning to use the fooker. :roll)

On windows, it was done before I'd thought of it and I'm finding it a bit of a struggle with the Mac's strange keyboard layout - but that's what winter's for!

It's a fair wedge to lay out at the start, but it'll pay me back in quality, and reliability, and because it's future-proof - a virtue that Windows PC's may never share.

The more I'm learning about this brilliant package, the more I'm wishing I'd made the switch sooner.

...No...

...Really

T.Murphy wrote:Very nice DA. BUT..I watch fillums on the telly and listen to music on me eye fi or Sena.

Arrr... Why would I need a TV when I've got an iMac that gives me better sound and picture quality than a telly anyway? :-?

Just remember, this gem was acquired for me and me man-room, to which I often choose to retire when Mrs DA wants ter watch Holby City in peace. :roll)

Whether I'm working - or just faffin' about - I can still watch a film or listen to music - or both, if I'm a bit worse for wear, like.

Honestly, I don't know how they do it - every time I turn it on and the screen springs into life, I'm like, "FOOOOOOOOOO-kin-ELL this is BRILL-YUNT!!" :rockon)

T.Murphy wrote:Have you copied all ya CD's onto ya eye toons then?

...Yep, all me entertainment stuff used to be on two external hard drives. Everything's tucked away neatly on me Mac, now.

...No fuss - clean as a whistle - fast as a 'Bird and just as good lookin'. :thumbsup)

My son in law has one and I still can't figure out why the screen is covered in fingerprints, it' not a touch screen? The nicrosoft office for macs and windows for that case, turns out they now don't just sell it to you, the end....they now also sell it like anti virus in that you get a years licence or you pay half the cost again and get a lifelong version. How on earth does bill gates remain the worlds richest man.

I found the transition easy as with most macs and just the "why don't they do it like microsoft" questions but that only lasted a few days. You will love it d.a.

Hmmmmm, yerrrse. And are these downloads for free and multi player usable? No, I think not. Mr Apple has got you more than firmly by the bollox.

(Still got me Linn Sondek in use and as for CDs, yep just getting the hang of them and their uses)

Retrogrades ,

..Well... Yer think fookin wrong there, pal! :twisted)

Buy a licensed download programme and all yer pay is the price of the software.
All yer downloads are free cuz the artists are paid their cut by the software guys. :thumbsup)

T.Murphy wrote:Mr Apple has got you more than firmly by the bollox.

...If Mr Apple wants ter save me a few grand's-worth of software, hardware, upgrades, track-me-every-movement, screen-freezin' low-quality end-of-life but getting' more expensive every year crap that will probably never reach the same quality and aesthetic value as a fookin' iMac in a million years (breathe...) well... Mr Mac can keep me bollocks restin' on 'is chin for as lo-ong as 'e likes.

PS

We upgraded to iPhone 6 a few weeks ago.

Downside - Lorraine's is actin' up a bit.

Upside - mine's workin' fookin' BRILL-yunt and the sound quality's FAN-fookin-TASTIC! :rockon)

...Er... 'Ave I said that before, somewhere?

My phone's downstairs but if I get a call I can answer/reject it from the Mac, or me Senna, or me TomTom.

I've got Siri for voice control across all platforms and I don't have to shout...

Right then.... our young'un has an iphone6s. We paid £400 for an ipad mini for xmas for her.

How are these supposed to be paired ? Tried pairing with bluetooth and they dont recognise each other.. read up and says software glitch on the iphone, switch off and on again etc etc still to no avail.

Can these be tethered as a local hotspot like i do with my androids and I can then use the tablet as a phone ?.

Also Can you install itunes on the ipad like she did on her old lappy as you still have to have an apple account to make things work. To be honest I started to read up on the apple stuff but cant be arsed to relearn as I still prefer the android..

Also... last year with her iphone five, she was charging it with the cheap ebay cables because the originals are pants. As were thousands of other folk. Apple did a software update and it basically shut the phone down if you were using the cheap ones. Apparently there is a chip in the cables that needs to be reconised by the phone. (Apple cables only from registered dealers £15 ish )
After about 4 trips to murderhall to the apple store herself and a few thousand other folk were left with phones that they would

not repair and she had to see the remaining 8 months of her contract out with a borrowed fone. The law suits are still ongoing.

Anway any help with the tethering thing and itunes will be very much appreciated :thumbsup)

In one. It's a fashion thing innit ?( see what I did there?..)

I would expect more mature people to be a bit less gullible, shallow and fickle.

I mean.....how the fook can a "Mac" be more aesthetic than a lappy or a tablet for fekks sakes? What is actually pleasing to the eye of a square flat plastic thing eh?

"Free" music for Fooks sakes after you've BOUGHT as in paid money, for software.? Yea, I can buy that. In fact, there's a petrol station near me where I get my petrol for free. Don't pay a fekkin penny for it honest John. Fill up for fekk all every time me. Just have to pay an exit fee to leave the garage forecourt which coincidentally, is directly proportional to the amount of free fuel I've taken.

"Thousands of paaaarnds"? Nah, don't think 20 years of using puters for important stuff such as emails, eBay, porn, Freecell and Bubbles has cost me not even a grand.

Nah....iss all smoke and mirrors to me.

More insidious than fekkin Bill Gates and Murdoch together. Coonts the lot though
