Route advice

Postby bluegas » Mon Jan 11, 2016 10:51 pm

Planning a trip through France last week of July. Will be taking the ferry to St Malo then heading sort of south-east ish towards Switzerland. I'll be there for a couple of days, then taking in some alp stuff before riding back through Germany. I was wondering if anyone had been this way before and could offer any advise on the route, places to stop at etc.
Might be chopping in the Kwak for something more upright to do the trip.......not a feckin TDM though :thumbsup)

Firstly get an Explorer :thumbsup) bollix to the tedium :banghead)

About the route.....Wat sort of roads you wanna ride?
Fastest.....or to keep off the busiest and straightest roads and just the quietest and most scenic roads which takes longer :ride)
How many miles do you want to cover each day?

I personally try to stay off the dual roads and motorways as much as possible but it's sometimes hard not to!

I also plot each days route before I leave with all my stop over places already booked on Booking.com :thumbsup)
There,s only one good ride!!!!!
One that you return home safely from!!!!! Make sure you do!!!!!

Thanks Trippo. I've got three days to cover the distance and would be doing 200-250 ish miles a day. Scenic roads better, I can look at accommodation once I've got the basic route sorted.

Those distances per day are comfortably doable on "nice" roads.

Spooky you should mention this trip tonight as earlier in the day I thought to myself "must ask the Peterbro geezer about his Italy trip.

Anyrode, part of the fun is planning where ya gonna ride. Fooks sakes do NOT get a BWM. Just DON'T.

Why St Malo for starters?

How many days to come back?

C'mon, more details please :ride)

Why St Malo John?

Is it an overnight crossing where you arrive early morning?
Or just go Dover Calais then get a couple or 3 hours down the road for the 1st night :thumbsup) then the 2nd night somewhere around Dijon area then 3rd day into Switzerlandshire :ride)

I had decided that I would start with a ride from Peterborough on the Saturday,a nice days riding through the West Country down to Plymouth. Ferry on the Sunday to St Malo (was there a few years ago in the jam jar and it's quite nice) from there it gives me three days to get to Switzerland where I'm meeting the bread knife and daughter for a couple of days to attend her friends wedding.
Then planning to do two or three days round the Alps (not a scooby on where to start on that) before heading towards the Chunnel and home.
So, leaving Saturday 22nd July, if anyone happens to be floating around in Europe gizzard shout!
