Dover or Calais?

Taking a trip :ride) on the XX down to Bavaria this summer and have the second night planned in Moschau just over the Belgian border in Germany. I will be traveling 200 miles from home to Folkestone/Dover through the Chunnel and then Calais to the first stop is just over 200 miles again. I could do it in one day but want to take the first part of the trip fairly steadily and stop off to see a few sights on the way.

I can’t decide where to stop on the first night, either in or near Folkestone or get the train on the first day and kip near Calais. :-? :-? :-?

I would appreciate any advice you fine chaps could offer. :notworthy) :notworthy) :notworthy)

Cheers! :thumbsup)

Dont stop in Dover or Folkstone or England, take the train when you get there and half hour later you will have a choice of a lot nicer hotels Than here. I can highly recomend St Omer about 25 miles inland. There is a very good Ibis their and its a lovely place to stay, you can take the coast road if you want but its a little further.... Ill find you some more info tomorrow whem Im back down to earth after a errm hectic weekend :thumbsup)

If your heading off to Bavaria you should really consider the Alpine Strasse route, further south you go the better it gets..

Written instructions in pdf format on the site..

I concur with the Oldboy  get over the Channel before you stop for the night, a much better experience.

St Omer makes good sense and the Alpine Strasse route looks amazing. I couldn't decide which side of the Channel to stay but will definitely cross before stopping now.

Thanks for the wise words, I really appreciate it.

Cheers :thumbsup) :thumbsup) :thumbsup)

This is the Berchtasgden end which was home sweet home at one time....... was just rolling back from Slovakia on Big Red and was headed further up the Alpine strasse to stay with a couple of mates.

September Mister M i really fancy it again..

You should really consider this place for a stop off, lots going on and only 60 miles from Calais

Looking forward to seeing it, got the Mrs with me so camping would be too much to ask. Booked into this place recommended by a mate http://www.hotelscombined.co.uk/Hotel/H ... 0wodejoE9w.

I'll let you know how it goes.
