Shock-Shock...

Postby Dark Angel » Sun Feb 28, 2016 4:03 pm

.
Dry road home from work on Friday - first time in a-ages!

Had a bit o' giddiness but sensed a "thunk" over a bump that's never bothered the bike before...

Satdi - got up to change the disc pads and clean the bike - pads done and cleaning only half-done by the end of the day (forgot WSB was on - so got a very late start... )

Got up early this morn - watched rest of WSB - went out to finish clean and polish - saw this on the swing arm... jawdropping

Shock.jpg

The bike-side of the silencer's also got a dent from hitting the big weld on the swing arm... :shock)

Long story short - shock's shot - (I'd put the slightly scary handling down to tyres that had "died of exhaustion" some considerable time ago!) duh

...Anyway - Thought I'd get it sorted sharpish, like...

10:45 am - Nipped over to Gary/Karen JAWS and he lent me a refurbed one as he'd sold his last, brand-spankin'-new one only hours before... :banghead)

New one for me should arrive Tues\Weds... :thumbsup)

Set off to ride home and fit the temporary replacement - sun came out... :ride) :rockon)

Only just got in - starvin' - gigglin' - and in no mood to start messin' wit bike... :roll)

...Lorraine's out - I've got a load of MotoGP stuff recorded and beer int fridge...

...Ah, well... Soon be Tues/Weds ... lol

That has nowt to do with a knackered shock and has everything to do with the girth of the rider

..."Probably won't clear at the fullest width of the silencer if there's too much sag and no support from the shock" - that was my first thought when I saw it - but I'll have another look tomorrow. :oops)

...Yeh... But...amazingly, the damage wasn't there last week when I cleaned the bike... :roll)

..Honestly... Words fookin fail me... duh

...Read wot I wrote, fer fooks-ache... Look at the fookin picture... :banghead)

The "big weld" is barely scuffed... ...Very early stages of damage, so there IS something amiss...

...The silencer's caught the swing arm without deforming it - because the "big weld" took the initial hit and prevented more damage from the silencer...

...only the sticker is damaged - the swing arm isn't deformed... :pullhair

...We're talking in terms of a paper's-width of clearance - probably because the rake of the silencer isn't sufficient to deal with the lowered height caused by a failed shock.

...Anyway... New shock'll be here soon... :thumbsup)

...Be rollin down ter Catalunya in no time... :ride) :rockon) :thumbsup) lol

Eric, cans should clear by a couple of mm when shock bottoms out, Just tweak it over a tad on hanger pal,
The cans on injections vary slighly in thickness so you mite have fitted a set from a cat bike or other way round if you get my drift...
Thought it had worn the actual swinger not just the label ... :P Go see Nige and get a couple of carbons sorted, save yerself and yer shock a couple of stone now your two up touring again pal.. :D

Supers was good :rockon) :ride)
