Bikes won’t be allowed in to the Mugello circuit this year for MotoGP, duh
so I’m sulking and planning a route down to Pompeii instead.

Italy 2018.jpg

All thotels are booked and we’ll (me and Mrs DA) be riding out via
Geneva and returning via lake Como.

I’d love to know if there are any “must see”, “must ride” or “must avoid”
bits either way. All advice would be much appreciated!

Cheers all!

Well… :roll)

…after a brief discussion we’ve decided against buying a
roof rack to enable us to carry the panniers on the car, so… :ride)

We’re staying three nights in Pognana Lario on the banks of lake Como on the way home, Dave.

Could ride out from there and back again if there's some of it that's do-able in a day.

PL.jpg

From Pognana Lario we head on to Metz, so might be able to take it in as part of the route homeward?

Stelvio is about 100miles away hardwork nothing special but a tick in the box

Furka's about the same nice road

but your doing Pognana to Metz in a day about 350miles
worth pulling a line through Mullhouse to Gerardamer
a bit of research and theirs a summer toboggan run up in the mountains

Perhaps instead of heading straight through France, from Calais.head towards Belgium then down through the Ardennes into Luxembourg

Not only better roads, but, in the summer, a lot less traffic with superb road surfaces... done it several times

Recommended!

A casual observation from Lorraine stopped me in my tracks: “We won’t be
going to any MotoGp’s this year, will we?” I must say, was genuinely
surprised, almost shocked, not because of the words she’d spoken, but
because I hadn’t given a thought to our annual pilgrimages to the races! duh

Catalunya 2005 was our first venture, Blackbird-borne into Europe in the company
of John (Rhino) and Paul (Fodder), later to meet with our now long established Dutch
friends, Patrick and Manuella.

It’s strange to think that we won’t see a “live” race in 2018 – but it’s also exhilarating
to think of the trips we’ve got planned and the events we’ll be a part of in the coming year.

I’m both thankful and relieved for the freedom that retirement has brought from the
‘daily grind’ and, if last year was great (and it was!) this year looks as if it will be even better!

Roll on, summer! :rockon) ..
