Just filled up at my local Sainsbury's today, and was confronted with the new E10. Didn't think that was coming till September.

Anyway, performance seems to be the same, though I thought the fuel gauge dropped quicker. Also, I thought the Bird was running hotter than usual. Outside temp was only about 20 C, but the temp gauge was wavering just under HOT in town, which is more than usual.

This whole E10 is a load of b******s ( to use a Boris quote). All the hassle it brings is going to save less than 1% a year on CO2 emissions in this country.

Dont store it this winter with the E10 shite in Chris it'll go off in a short time, brim it with the premium stuff to stand a better chance or use one of the additives available for winter storage.

Yes indeed. Good advice jono.

It struck me that if E10 attracts water so readily, how do we know we're not buying a petrol/water mix at the pumps?

Aparently it absorbs moisture when the tank is partially empty, keeping the tank full seems to be the way to go!

Sorry - False Alarm

Sainsburys have put the E10 stickers on the pumps ready for 1st Sept, as they said they couldn't do it overnight at all stations. So it's still E5 being sold at the pumps till then. I was assured that there are already sensors/ monitors on their bulk tanks to alert about water contamination.

FI Birds are compatible with E10. Carbed ones might have some issues in cold weather.

Only in the UK, Next they'll be putting stickers on Airsource heat pumps.... "This appliance wont heat your house properly and bankrupt you with huge electricity bills"

It was the rad on its way out, that lead to the increased temp.

Moral of story: Beware of Old Farts jumping to wrong conclusion.

The 21 year old radiator is all oxidized between the fins, and blocked with shite, despite regular hosing.

Time and patience needed to clean between all the fins..I think there are about eleventy ten fins in total. DAMHIKIJKOK :rolleyes:

Have been told by farmer friends ( in relation to tractor rads ) not to hose them ever, but use an air line. So that's what I shall do from now on with this new one.

Going back to the E10, I have not noticed any loss of performance in both bikes and car. First encountered the stuff back in 2013 high in the mountains of Switzerland at a little self service station, when I had my new GS. At that high altitude, it was a good test. What I also noticed was the fuel price was cheaper ( subsidized? ) at this remote site than at the main towns and cities at the base of the valleys.
