Road-trip

Postby Demontat » Fri Aug 01, 2003 5:59 am

I am organizing a ride to Key West, Florida. I am looking for input on essential items for the ride. Soft-goods are obvious... riding gear, change of socks and underwear, pair of shorts and several t-shirts.

I am looking for bike-specific items and those "comfort" items that I haven't thought of. Not only looking for my personal items, but those that should be included for the group as well ("if we only had one *****") As for my Bird I will be riding with my Alpha bag and Whoppa bag on the rear. And the clothes on my back... no saddles or hard luggage!!

The ride is tentatively planned for next spring... prior to it getting really hot, but warm enough that the college girls will be trying to get on "Girls Gone Wild" 8)

People always forget the bottle opener for the beers, but if ya can fit one in, I'd also take a cool bag big enough to hold a six pack. Comes in handy for the beach and saves wonga too

Sounds a long trip, the most obvious thing is your bike. Make sure the consumables- tyres, chain etc have enough life in them to last the distance and if a service is coming up do it before you go.
95% of all Harley Davidsons ever made are still on the road... the other 5% made it home.

That's the main thing for sure... we are limiting the number of bikes to six and those that get invited have to pass the "road worthiness" test first! This is a seven day road trip and we dont wanna turn ANY wrenches!!

Theres no lotto in Tennessee. At the last state election a lotto bill was passed and I understand that we will have one after the first of the year. Until than I will have to pick up a Powerball ticket when I deliver fuel into Kentucky (about twice a week) The jackpots are HUGE since it is a multi-state contest though I think I have better odds of poking Anna Kournikova in the pooper!!!

If you'll be riding during the night, I'd make sure to carry a flashlight.
I keep a small flare jobbie under the seat, the ones you usualy have on boats that you just break the crystals inside and shake them...they normaly shine for about 8 hours...

Thats a good idea BA... when I ride at night I wear the same gear on my belt that I wear at work... A mini-mag flashlight and a Case knife with a 5 inch blade sharpened to a surgeons liking. 8)

The glow stick is a great idea for constant hands-free lighting
