Advanced Training

Postby Bob Pinder » Wed Sep 24, 2003 12:56 pm

Anybody done any?
What did you think?
What did you get out of it?
What did you pay?
What would you pay?
Would you do it again?
Would you have a yearly refresher?
Have I asked enough questions?
Thanks
Bob

Not me
Nothing
Not a lot
Nothing
Dunno
Possibly
Doubt it
No

Perhaps the question missing was:
If you haven't done any, would you consider it?

To which I would have answered YES.

I have considered it, even if just to get the insurance discounts. I'd also like to do a track day, wheelie school, and other things which I just can't afford at the moment :P

Advanced training ?????

Postby Rolfy Dave » Wed Sep 24, 2003 4:07 pm

Yes Bob,

Done it,

would do it again,

Just need the money now...LOL

been out with our very own SImon off "the other site" (advanced instructor)

Done an MAC course through Honda.

Just been out for a a Bikesafe day with the Police... Very constructive...

I dont think we ever stop learning, so any training (advanced/trackday/wheelieschool etc) has got to be a good thing,

Best wishes,

Did a day with Rapid Training Bob. They are police riders who have their own little sideline business I believe. They teach you road position, gear selection, throttle response and observation. Their policy is " you're gonna ride your bike fast so we may as well teach you how to ride safely ". They also say stick to the limits through towns then, at national speed limit signs, wind it on. It was 2 pupils to 1 instructor and believe me by the end of the day I couldn't believe how fast I was riding :D and safely :D :D . We went all round the Cotswolds. The day was about £100 but that was a few years ago :banghead)
You have offended my family..........and you have offended the Shaolin Temple.

Did the police bike courses standard-intermediate and advanced donkeys years ago free with the job- but would consider having a go at anything else as you never stop learning.
95% of all Harley Davidsons ever made are still on the road... the other 5% made it home.

Yes passed IAM

Of the training? Excellent, saved me a bin!

I'm safer, smmoooother, safer, content to ride within speed limits when I have to, did I mention safer.

The skills for life packege is £85.

Don't need to pay any more, you will get what it says on the box a skill for life.

I enjoyed it so much I trained further and became an Observer.

When you make a mistake you ask yourself, was I not looking far enough ahead? or did I not position myself correctly? or was it my speed? You are constantly learning and improving. Passing your IAM test is just the beginning not the end.

Visit the IAM web site www.iam.org.uk

Flame away :moon)

I did the Bikesafe thing here......
Mixed feelings about this.....
Spent a totally wasted evening getting told off about visors, exhausts, and shown slides of road rash, and worse.
(BTW, The official line is to put a line of insulating tape along the top of your visor, and tilt your head when required....)
Then went out for a run with a cop who told me the 'bird sounded excellent with the Remus cans, and with a black visor on himself. WTF?
He threw the Pan into corners like I never thought he'd get out of, without touching the brakes. For that, I was well impressed.
It taught me a lot about observation, I'll give them that, but I'd far rather the IOM course, which I've done in a car, but will look up bikewise very soon...
