95% of all Harley Davidsons ever made are still on the road... the other 5% made it home.

I dont know about the rest, but the cameras on Stocksbridge are the type that measure the distance and time travelled between two cameras, so even if you pass the first camera at 20mph, and then accelerate to warp factor 9 and slow down to 20mph for the second camera, they get you on the average over the distance - bastards, oh and they are forward and rear facing too. :banghead)

But they do suffer a little when the lens gets accidentally painted by an innocent motorist who may have recently received a ticket :twisted)

Here is some more info for anyone thats interested from the company that makes the SPECS system.

http://www.speedcheck.co.uk/specs.htm

and for a list of SPECS sites

http://www.speedcheck.co.uk/map.htm

Although these systems get right up my nose the use of the speed camera signs without a camera actually present really pisses me off. The legislation was altered to prevent this from happening but appears to have been circumvented by the use of mobile "safety" cameras. The signs now relate to an area where speed monitoring may take place from time to time. In addition, why in roadworks do they paint the cameras the same colour as the trillion other roadworks signs?

We all know that you break the limit you break the law, but just as driving past a school at 3:30 in the afternoon at 30mph is way too fast, driving at more than 70 mph on a straight motorway with virtually no traffic around is almost causing an obstruction.

The association of british drivers has some info on the statistics and a useful info plus an audit form if anyone has been done recently.

Hmmm, their information says:

"....This is a unique system, which is an excellent deterrent against speeding motorists."

They then go on to say:

"....The SPECS system is so efficient and user friendly that Manchester CTO processed 2,500 offences in 6 man-hours."

So what they really mean is that drivers pay no attention what so ever to this system and it doesnt deter drivers at all. Yet another waist of money, just to generate more coffers for plod.
