IMPORTANT INFORMATION re: Chat Room

Guys. The old chat room is GONE, I decided the you guys and the crew would benefit far more from a "streamlined" chat room, which runs hand in hand with the forum. I have therefore added on, as the header (top of the forum page says).

The benefits are:

1. You do not have to log into CHAT. So long as you are logged into the forum, it will take you membership details and validate them with the database (of members), and them launch you into chat room.

2. You MUST be registered with the IXXRA forum to get into the chat room

3. Guests cannot gain access. You must be logged in.

4. Members who have not activated their forum membership by email validation cannot get in either.

5. You can see how many people are in chat before you go in. (which is handy)

6. The chat room useses the same smilies as the forum! (cool or what?!) By all means use them and have fun, but please try not to go daft (OTT)with them for the guys on 56k connections.

7. The chat link appears on the menu when you are logged in (and only when you are logged in)

8. As you'll know, in the 'Users Online" panel (Forum Index page) there will be an indication of how many are in chat

9. I nearly screwed up the forum doing it....

Chatroom makes me loopier than normal, :shock: :? :shock:
It keeps jumping as it refreshes itself, I find the window is very small and harder to read(as I'm on a laptop), and someone's always in and out just because they havn't posted in 60 seconds...otherwise it's great

The AWAY function is just that. It still keeps you IN the room but notifies other people that you may be away.

It tells people that you are still in the room, but just not active in the running conversations, which I think helps.

If you guys don't like it then that is fine I can remove it. But give it a chance to see if it works first though. :notworthy:

Ok guys, I've made the chat box a lot bigger and enlarged the font size from 10 to 12 point. (as requested)

It is a fact that some people don't like change... I value and respect everyone's opinion here.

So...I'll leave it a few weeks before posting a poll about which chat room ya want to live with on the ixxra forum.

Personally I think a chat room that uses members original log-ins from the forum are better and it means you immediately know who's who.

The problem is that the old chat room was often used by guest, and in some cases IMPOSTERS.

I'm not opposed to change as long as it's for the better. If you take a test ride on a new bike, and you come back from the ride feeling grumpy, uncomfortable, irritated, and wishing you could just get back on your old bike, then you're not likely to buy the bike. You might like some of the features, but generally feel that the overall package just ain't right for you. It's all to do with first impressions, and if your first impression leaves you less than satisfied, it's likely there won't be a second chance. But, this is a chat room we're talking about, which don't cost thousands of pounds for each member. So, although my first impression leaves me feeling less than satisfied, I'll give it another try. Mainly cuz it's free, and I know you put a lot of your own time and effort into it :wink: But, if I still don't like it, I don't have to use it do I :!: And get yer skinny little arse over to the P&P run :roll:
