Thatcham approved HISS 2 IMPORTANT

Postby Deano » Sun Nov 23, 2003 10:45 am

Just read this info from the Honda Owners Club at http://www.hoc.org.uk

HISS 2 gets Thatcham approval

Honda’s new HISS 2 (Honda Ignition Security System) has won Category 2 approval by the Motor Insurance Repair Research Centre in Berkshire.

The Centre is funded by the Association of British Insurers (ABI) and category 2 approval from Thatcham can equate to a 5-10% discount on insurance premiums.

Owners of machines equipped with the original HISS system need not be discouraged: for a nominal charge they can upgrade to HISS 2 and thus enjoy all the benefits that Category 2 approval confers.

To read the full Press Release and see a list of bikes that can take the HISS 2, download this Word document.

Very interesting how they put the emphasis on the insurance discount - I'd much rather have my Bird safe and sound than a discount anytime, which is one of the reasons why I forked out for a Thatcham Cat 1 approved system (the other reason was that Carole Nash told me I had to or they wouldn't renew my insurance). I've still got the original HISS fitted and smartwater, but I really can't understand why you have to press the HISS button with the ignition switched on and hold it for a couple of seconds before switching off the ignition in order to set the HISS LED flashing :? It is a deterrant that's for sure - it deters me from ever setting the bastid thing :roll)

And all it is is a tamper proof bracket, has to be fitted by a dealer so it's fitted correctly- well that means about 10% will be fitted right :roll)
95% of all Harley Davidsons ever made are still on the road... the other 5% made it home.

And mine will be one of the others that won't get fitted at all if past experience is anything to go by :roll)

I remember when this came out in June
I've spoke to both Trev & Gary in Tillstons & to date they cannot give me a price foor fitting this 'bracket' to take the HISS up to HISS 2
Apparently Honda are dragging their heels with brackets & prices :roll)

Unless any1 knows any different of course :?
