front tyre bt010?

Postby half_empty1 » Sun Dec 14, 2003 9:54 pm

hi all,
ive got a new bridgestone bt010 sitting in my garage,
its a 120/70 zr17 (58w)
so although its not recommended fitment by bridgestone for 2003,
it has the same 58w rating as the bt020 and bt011 recommended fitment.
has anyone used a bt010 front?
do you reckon its ok to fit?
they still recommend a bt010 rear for the bb, so i could have a matching pair.
thanks all.

Could be abit dodgy that 1 mate :bigcry:
With the weight of the xx it tends to buckle the sidewalls on the BT 010
Even tho' u have a 010 on the rear u can still fit an 020 on the front
There's an xx specific front 020, the BT 020 W
I know Deano's got the xx specific 020's on his bike, so I'm sure he will be along shortly to rate 'em :thumbsup)

The below information comes from Bryn Philips from the motorcycle division at Bridgestone's UK headquarters. For more information speak to him or Arthur Macdonald on 01926 488500.

As of January 2003 Bridgestone are now only APPROVING four tyre fitments for the xx, all running
42psi front & rear:

1) BT57 G matched pair (yes they're still available)
2) BT 020 W on the front BT 020 L on the rear
3) BT 011 E on the front BT 010 on the rear
4) BT 011 E on the front BT 012 on the rear

A few points: The front compound of any matched pair is always different to that of the rear.

The BT 020 W is an xx specific front version of the 020.

The BT 011 E for the front is the exact same tyre that is Original Equipment on the 2002 GSXR1000. This
tyre is very similar to a standard 010 but has a special construction giving far better damping characteristics.

Note: Bridgestone DO NOT approve the fitment of an 010 on the front of the xx. In their words,
"This fitment results in a noticeable 'shimmie' when decelerating that becomes greater as the tyre wears".
The xx 's are too heavy on the front for the 010.

The fourth recommended fitment uses a BT 012 on the rear.
THIS TYRE IS NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH THE ULTRA SOFT BT 012 SS. The BT 012 is currently
standard fitment on the new ZX9R and Blade. It's a brand new design which will eventually replace the now
four year old BT 010. It's a tyre for 'future' superbikes according to Bridgestone and will give similar mileage
to an 010.

I've got an 010 on the front and an 020 on the rear, seen quite a few others with the same. Though it's not a Bridgestone recommendation it works.

Kinnell just posted on the same post in the Out Patients as well so just pasted the reply again.

I had 010's front and rear on my xx last year and never noticed a problem in 7000miles except that they obviously wore quicker than my current 020's :?

I had 010 front and back. Very good tire, IMO.... They lasted about 8K miles. I ride with GIVI almost all the time too.
Cheers,

:santa)

Just for you BH:-

Miles Kingsport
82-86 Holgate Rd,
York
YO24 4AB
01904 655124

www.mileskingsport.co.uk

and they've quoted £140 + parts, for a 24,000 mile service which seems to me reasonable. Anyone know any different :?

It was their Hull shop that sold me my Australian import as a UK bike. Apparently they had it in as a part-ex from a friend of the boss. They paid up the difference very quckly but it left a bit of a bad taste, still I was posted soon after and am now in N. Ireland

Had a quote from the Honda dealers in Ballymena for £65 + parts+VAT for an 8000 mile service. My local dealer in Northampton quoted £125 all in for routine consumables - oil, filter etc. Anything else - brake pads for example will be extra.
