Scottoiler vs Hawkeoiler vs Pro-Oiler

Postby beldin » Tue Apr 19, 2005 3:25 pm

I'm looking at fitting one of the above (prolly the scottoiler) and would like to know what everyone else thinks...

Bearing in mind the following: :P

- Reliability
- Ease of use
- Ease of installation
- Overall effect of cutting into things

The Scottoiler seems to be the most widely used, but... :banghead)

Had the Scottoiler on my ZZR1100 and it did what it says on the tin - Looked after the chain, extended its life and was easy to operate :D . Only works when the engine is running (carb'd bike), doesn't mess up the rear wheel too much and you can always find oil to top it up with. (chainsaw oil etc......)
Keep the black bits down, and the shiny bits up!

I've fitted loads of scott-oilers and wold recommend them, reliable, easy to use and easy to refill. They are a bit pricey but how much does it cost to replace your chain twice as often?

Cheers

Likewise, Scottoiler gave me 28k out of the first chain, easy to fit, even the vacuum pipe (well, on the FI 'bird anyway). Only issue is having to remember to adjust the flow when the temperature changes.

had a scott oiler..fiddled non stop with the thing for a few months as the temp kept changing then came to the conclusion i would spend much less time just squirting a bit of chain lube on the chain and no worrys about has the oiler chucked all over me rear tyre
ripped the scott oiler off one day and threw it againts the wall before attacking it with a hammer..and it felt good
never again would i buy one..i wouldnt even fit one if it was free
other good point of spray lubing the chain is you get to inspect the whole rear end more than what you would do with a crapoiler fitted
overpriced junk possibly dangerous too IMO
Lifes too short to eat cheap food!
top tip..dont enter the blackwall tunnel with 3m headroom when driving 3.02 height!!!!!!
motor home build finished 15 months later!!

Fitted the Scottoiler

Postby beldin » Wed May 04, 2005 1:31 pm

Have now fitted the Scottoiler - VERY easy install (OK, I took of all the body panels for cleaning, so that made access easy).

It's been going for about 1.5 weeks and impressions thus far is good! :)

Get no oil on back wheel - OK, OK, I got a little when I decided to "wash" the chain by setting the RMV to "prime" and then going for a 10km ride... but even this was only a little... and it got the chain nicely oiled all over.

Have reduced the setting but haven't gotten help yet for exact measuring of 1-2 drops of oil per minute yet - am quite happy to "flush" the chain till later this week when I'll time/count and set accordingly.

Couple of pics (not all yet) of installation on my site at www.ibbenburen.co.za - just look/search for the XX section!! :wink)

This is a tough question as I don't think you're likely to find people who've used more than one brand.

That noted, The Scottoiler worked without issue for me (albeit on my VFR).

I have had a touring model Scotoiler on my FJ and it's brilliant. Just remember to top it up though :oops)

As I pick my 'bird up on Saturday, how easy is it to fit a Scotolier to one? As it's an 03 model, I would assume it's an injection model. Is there a take off point for the vacuum pipe to fit on to?
I'm not mad but I am

Just for the info of those that fitted the Scott oiler.....

When I fitted one to me old bike (the one without the radiator!) I sent in some pictures of the installation to scott oil and got some free chain oil and a couple of small protective spray stuff back.

Well worth trying to contact them and offering those pics....
The above opinion in no way represents the sound of mind. In fact it......em, err, thingy....

oh bummer...... sodin ouch again

Totally agree with Reefer.

I gave a Scottoiler away last month to someone after I ripped it off the VFR. Now I've bought a Bird and it bloody got one on too :banghead)

Took it off yesterday and cleaned up all the oil spilt under the seat. Its now sat on the garage floor awaiting sale.

TBH cleaning the chain on a Bird is a pain esp with the two cans and having no centrestand. Still Id rather do that and have the extra space under my seat than have one of those silly things.
