If I were to take a laptop abroad, could it be plugged straight into a european phone socket, or will I need a pocket full of adapters of various types :-?

im guessing a bit here as im not actully sad enough to rig up a lap top to the net on holiday :D ..might search for a net cafe but thats me bottom line
i would have thought if they are equipped with modem access it would be mostly a lan type plug or the newer gaffs would be wifi enabled
you can get little multi adapter kits that come in a nice little wallet that cover most connections..usb, lan telephone, etc there about £10 or so
can get you one via work and have it delivered to your door if you need it :wink)
Lifes too short to eat cheap food!
top tip..dont enter the blackwall tunnel with 3m headroom when driving 3.02 height!!!!!!
motor home build finished 15 months later!!
