GIVI LUGGAGE QUERY

Can anyone explain the Givi system to me ?
...

From what I understand, there are 3 sections or components to consider when buying.

1. The RACK: this is specific to the individual motorbike and varies from model to model ?

2. The PLATE/FITTING KIT: This is speicific to the box you choose ?

3. The BOX(ES): These are personal preference and are only dictated if I have already bought the plate/fitting kit ?

I had the same headache when buying my topbox. The only way I can describe them is that there is a MonoLock and a MonoKey.

The MonoLocks cases are smaller and usually designed for scooters and small bikes.

MonoKeys are designed for easy opening/detachment with one key - with mine if you turn the key as if to open then press the button it can be taken off quickly and simply.

The problem I had was I got the wrong plate. You must make sure that if you buy a MonoKey you get a MonoKey plate.

Cannot remember if rack was per bike - I am sure someone else maybe able to help on this.

Thanks Foxy.

I'm pretty sure the rack is bike specific.

Then you have to get the plate to go with it.

Then you choose your boxes.

I think.

I think there are things known as fitting kits too. Not sure if that's just the racks.

Looking through the websites, I was thinking to go for maximum size in the boxes. The maximums I can find are 45l for panniers and 55 for topbox. However, when being quoted prices from local dealers, they are offering 36l panniers and 45 topbox. What do people think of these sizes. Is 36 and 45 adequate ?

Well-- at the risk of stating the bleedin' obvious--- they're smaller. I would ask a question-- are you touring with a female passenger :-? If so, save up and buy the big stuff. If not- go for the 36x45 option- there's more than enough space for the average rider including bringing contraband home to pay for the trip :wink) Just be sure you can stow yer helmet in at least one of your boxes and that shouldn't be too difficult.

Only one person's opinion, so there ya go :wink)
Eliminate the impossible. Whatever remains, however improbable, must be the part you forgot to service.

Thanks Maxx. I appreciate the opinion.

Chances are I won't be travelling with female. Even if I do, she doesnt carry much anyway.

The other thing I was thinking was that I might not go for the full kit yet.

OPTION 1: Buy wingrack and topbox
OPTION 2: Buy wingrack and panniers.

Would I get buy with that much ? I'm thinking the Panniers would be a better option.

Buy a wing rack and panniers. Then spend a tenner on a fully waterproof roll bag and bungee that to the top box plate. Problem solved :wink)

you could buy the OEM panniers from David Silver spares...... much cheaper

colour matched

easy fit remove

takes helmet

only draw back is the top box, they dont do a rack for oem kit :(

if you then need a top box you have to fabricate a rack :D

just my opinion
