do i need anything for switzerland

Postby wade » Sun Jan 09, 2011 8:14 pm

Hi chaps hope you have all recovered from your partying. We are touring europe this summer and have been told that we might require some sort of tax when traveling on swiss motorways. We will only be on them for one day do i still need anything thanks for any help.

If you intend to use the Swiss main roads (ie A & S prefixed roads) you'll need a tax disc called a vignette matey. They're available at (or near) Swiss border controls and come in daily, 2 monthly and annual types. They're not too expensive at about 14 euros for the two months.

Enjoy
Eliminate the impossible. Whatever remains, however improbable, must be the part you forgot to service.

As Maxx2 says about the Swiss Vignette...EXCEPT I thought it was only if you intend to ride on motorways/two lane "expressways. £25 I think and you can book/buy one on-line in advance too.

On top of that BEWARE the speed limits. The penalties are "draconian"...on the spot fines/bans/take your credit card/hole in the wall cash card. F(600 to 800 euro fines are not uncommon ) From what I have read it cannot be stressed how stringent they are with speed limit enforcement...speed cameras in wheelie bins etc ( I kid you not) slow moving car that irritates you enough for you to nail past it at the first opportunity only to find it was a "honeytrap". The Swiss are a bunch of miserable snitches too...so beware.

...and enjoy :ride)

This was our final trip to Europe on a bike, and we did it after a recommendation from Shaggy & Nikki & Stu & Sharon.

It is like the Ring... you have to pay, but it is worth every penny, just for the views alone... The road is just a bonus...LOL

To be honest, I have just shed a tear or three remembering what great times we had on a bike...
