Just a note on iain's post.

Make sure your insurance covers you for repat of your motorcyle in case of a breakdown AND accident, not allways the case, check for small print.

generally use the AA travel insurance not the cheapest but probably the best and I use a company called A to Z travel insurance for medical and personal insurance both been ok ,although I think the AA put a premium on older bikes

I have no idea how i posted as a guest earlier, funny story though when we went to france this year we had got to the ferry a bit early i had parked the bike up, removed the seat to stop some tools rattling around put the seat back on and went and got a cup of tea, 20 minutes later panic sets in where the hell is the bloody key for the bike, went through my pockets went through the wifes looked on the ground couldn't find it anywhere, was resigned to using the spare when wife found the key in the lock for seat, fookwit.

Aye, me too - DOH !

A mate of mine and I decided to give our spare keys to each other, seemed like a good idea at the time.

It was a good idea until he took a wrong turn and then ran out of petrol just outside Le Havre. He pushed the bike to the petrol station (1 km) and then took his keys out of the ignition to open the petrol tank.

Except that half the key decided it was nice and snug in the petrol cap, ta, and stayed there. I, meanwhile, was waiting for him, with the others at the ferry port :banghead)

Just as well we both had functional mobiles.

Cheers

I managed to take most of the emergency stuff on my trip to South of France, but I had top box, 2 side panniers and a tank bag filled to the gunnels.
Some of the stuff isn't necessary but there's some god points in that list, just pick what suits your needs.

And it was taken from a thread on the VFR site, I'm the messenger. So try not to hurt your head too much.

From the 1st of Jan 2006 the E111 will be no longer valid, you haven't been able to get one from your PO since Sept.

It's replacement is the EHIC, which you have to send for, don't know how long it is valid for as the form I have just completed say's 3 to 5 years.

You can get a form to fill from any PO, apply on line or go to

Ohh... My.... GOOOOOOODDDD!!!??? :P

I travel on my bike to Poland at least twice a year (Suzuki GSX 750, 1981) and all I take is passport, euros, waterproof, chain lube, screwdriver and wheel spanner.

I never buy breakdown cover :P - just make sure bike is OK before I set off 8)

It's 1200miles one way. I've done it 8 times already and never broke down...
