Tyres?

Postby Kidbiker » Sun May 22, 2011 3:24 pm

Gettin new tyres soon, think im going for bridgestones BT's again. They seem pretty well wearing and grip well both solo and two-up.

Any body think there is a better choice or maybe a reason i should try others?

I do about 50/50 motorway/normal b-road riding and same for solo/two-up. Need good wet and dry grip too!

Cue "these are best " and "those are best" and "they square off in no time at all" and (the latest one I've heard) "they tip in so much quicker". :-? What the fook is THAT all about?

Fekk me, I am just a moron and can't tell stork from butter.

I wish I was a Riding God and not a Dog and could distinguish and recognise the finer nuances in tyres for the Bird.

Anyrode Kidbiker, the experts will soon be here to tell you what to buy.

I tried the Avons a few years back and hated them  Everyone else on the site was raving about them, so I thought I'd try a pair - they just didn't do it for me at all, especially when the rear blew its arse out after only 46 miles :banghead)

The originals were Dunlops, and I didn't like them too much so when they wore out, I bought BT020s and they made the xx feel like a totally different bike - the difference in handling was very noticeable :thumbsup)

At present I've got BT020s on the winter wheels and Michelins on the summer wheels. The Michelins do OK, but I'm not quite as comfortable with those as I am the Bridgestones :-? The BTs and the Pilots both do their job in wet and dry weather, but I'd say the BTs have the edge. I'm not sure about how long the Michelins will last compared to the BTs because I change wheels and don't log the mileage - I don't particularly care to be honest as long as they keep the petrol tank above them when I'm riding :rockon) When the rear Michelin gets worn I'll probably swap the summer wheels to run on Bridgestones, then put the Michelins on the winter wheels :thumbsup)

That'll be Michie Pilots please. The rest just try and copy them (with varying degrees of almost success)

Wonder if that gets Murph out of retirement on the wubber subject

anyway, on the subject of tyres..... i used Metzeler Z6s for 2 or 3 years and thought they were great! :notworthy)
every time i posted ' Metzeler Z6' on a tyre thread like this, i got posts back telling me they were sheeet and to try this make and that make.
this year, i decided to change to one of these other make so i had them changed ready for my 1st ride out on may 1st.
wow what a fooking difference they made! so much so that i lost 2 days (unconscious) and awoke in hospital with my beloved xx written off! :banghead)

so, the moral of this story is......

who the fook cares what tyres you use......unless you are Valentino Rossi, you ain't going to find the limits of even the cheapest ones on market :roll)

and

some silly cow can still pull out in front of you i a car and wreck your bike and enjoyment of riding for ever! :banghead) :bigcry:

OK then Iain, so go on then, what tyres did she have on her car that were so fcukin useless she didn't have enough grip to stop before you twatted her - I just want to make sure I don't buy any for my wife's car :thumbsup)

hang on :P ......... she pulled out literally 2 feet in front of me whilst i was at 50ish MPH, so even with steel spikes fitted i wouldn't have had enough time to stop! :banghead)

my point is.....buy what tyres you want, the difference that you can feel between makes is mostly just 'in the head'. unless you are racing, you really won't feel any difference. :wink)

skidspiker... have a troll through all the other tyre threads on here...(should keep you occupied for a day or two)
bottom line is that most if not all the leading brands offer good tyres... :thumbsup)
choose whatever your comfortable with, in your budget range. :rockon)

then go ride on them lots and lots... lol

we all have our favourites... mine are pilot 2's and the latest Avon storm 2's (which i have on at the moment).. both suite me, the miles i do (and expectant wear rate),
my riding style and the speeds i like doing. :thumbsup)

afraid you need to work it out for yourself...

regards :wink)

Kidbiker,

For what it's worth, I commute 70 miles a day in all weathers on my xx and use Dunlop Roadsmarts. They take ages to wear out and stick to the road like glue in both wet and dry.
