The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent full of doubt – I think!

As I said "Firstly, I’m not trying to teach all you Grannies too suck eggs, but it might help some of the inexperienced guys/galls on here."
:banghead) :banghead) :banghead) :banghead) :banghead)

If it stops just one person from high siding or going head on into a bus, then I think it's worth it. But there again, that's just my opinion! :roll)

Counter Steering

Postby aspguitars » Tue Nov 06, 2007 9:54 pm

Just recently had a freebie intro to Advanced Motorcycling. Quite a chunk of it was aimed at Counter Steering. I agree its a bit strange, and takes a bit of getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, its great.
Really handy for getting you out of tight spots, like when you realise at the last moment that you are going just a little bit too fast for that corner. Just a quick push on the bars in the opposite direction, lean into the bend, and let the bikes geometry do the rest. You just have to be really light on the bars and not hang on too tightly (Which we shouldn't do anyway, but all do at some time) Apparently the Police and other Advanced drivers have been doing it for years. How little we know!

WE ALL COUNTER STEER BUT DONT KNOW WE DOING IT

Postby TESLACOIL » Fri Sep 05, 2008 3:03 am

WE ALL COUNTER STEER BUT DONT KNOW WE DOING IT

I learned to counter steer by accident messing about on my pushbike.. never though much about it till i tried doing on my 125 motorbike

Then i read about it in a Magazine and i realised what is was and how to apply it... then i went out a tried it in anger.. i just messed about before

I dont know how anyone could ride a bike safley with out knowing how to counter steer...its damn dangerous not having countersteering to fall back on

I can flip flop like a GP rider anytime i feel and it has got me out a few scrapes on more time than i care to mention

( i dont know how to work the brakes throttle and shift weight around in harmony with countersteering .. i gotta work on that but i can rapidly change direction letting the tyres do the work at a drop of the hat)

There are two way to steer a bike, a kindo of natural leaning turn we do all the time ..then there is countersteering i do it 2 or 3 times every time i take ride...and when im going fast im countersteering on every corner i dont get right to correct my path and on some that i do )

not sure if i counter steer as may do it naturally???? but when my boots scrape the floor as i'm turning ( duh, obviously! ) does that mean i'm leaning too far or counter steering? ot just plain going too fast??

You may be unknowingly pushing the bike underneath or away from you when cornering, This often happens if you have straight arms and dont look far enough through the corner
