I know there are some very knowledgeable peeps on herer that use the bike-to-bike radios.

Have super pro avi from that nice autocom company and have just bought a pair of Midland G7 radios.

The information I require is :

What bloody leads do I need to connect it all up including PTT switch??

Have a squint here and you can tell me what lead you'll need (looks like a 2374 @ £12 to me)

As for the PTT switch (2384 @ £22), I THINK it's a seperate item and because it doesn't connect directly to the radio, one type fits all, but ring them and ask what part no it is, they'll sort ya

Most radios today have a vox feature ( voice operated transmit). Have a look in the manual you might not need a ptt switch

Waaaayyyy too much noise Mack, you need a ptt mate else you send the people your riding with insane ..

also everytime you speak to your pillion everyone else in the group hears you..


PTT is the way to go and are a couple of quid off ebay

Ooooh God yes....and the singing FFS, the wind noise cutting in over the vox system and transmitting very loud white noise to everyone I quite like 2-way comms on runs out, it helps with the day, but if someone's on vox, Kay unplugs her headset and then I swith the PMR off

Mack. Contrary to anyone saying you don't need a PTT switch and in addition to most other people saying you do, can I just stress that you MUST get a PTT switch for the reasons given by Maxx2.

VOX is NOT an alternative to the PTT switch.

In addition to the anecdotal evidence suggested above I too have experienced someone using Bike to Bike radio WITHOUT PTT.

It was aj in Germany who thought it hilarious to broadcast continually his singing to other bikes riding with him. This had been mentioned several times in the past and the fact that he really needed a PTT switch. Said he didn't need one. Reasons why one was needed were suggested, but fell on "deaf ears" and the advice declined. Then, on one particular ride, within a few minutes of getting underway, the open broadcast singing to "yasself" started .. After a minute or two of laffing about it, the next 20 minutes became interminable ( one mans humour is another mans whatever and all that)...until finally, out of sheer frustration and anger at some coont spoiling your ride, a pull over to rip the lead from ya helmet was required, thus preventing me from listening to MY music and MY Garmin and also speaking to any other riders with PMR's. .
Fortunately I have never experienced this since..

So, Poacher, go get a PTT switch for starters. On the PTT switch you have 3 positions, one for it to be disabled, another for it to be "open linked" so that whenever you talk the VOX automatically kicks in and lets you broadcast and finally the middle positon which is what it says on the tin i.e. press to talk.

Me too Mick we have found them invaluable when we go abroad with our friends, especially if /when you get split up etc etc..

Trick is to have it set up properly as has been said because it only takes one in the group to spoil the circle... set up is simple enough and a push to talk is vital.

If you have a PTT fitted and your system develops a fault or problem, then because of the PTT being fitted, you dont bother anyone else if you get my drift ...

AND you can still listen in without bothering anyone also

Just thinking aloud here and talking to myself as usual I suppose the next generation of bike to bike comms will be bluetooth, I know the bluetooth headsets that are available now can be paired with another bike with a limited distance and work well... BUT you cant have a private conversation with your pillion.. ie no option of PTT.

I have often thought about getting rid of the helmet cable but have not yet found another viable alternative... Anyone know of one ??? while we is on the subject

I use an RP1 intaride system and had it about 6-7 yrs I think they are trying to sort it for the latest digitol systems but didnt want to shell out for a whole new kit again ... anyone know the latest ???

I have the Midland G7's, and it is part 2374 you need.

Make sure you keep all your purchase paperwork for the radio's.
The G7's had a batch of faulty ones where the TX fails, it's a fault at the on/off switch that causes it.

They will replace, but are very careful about replacement on warranty without paperwork.

Just talking to myself again .... I emailed intaride about the above 'curly lead and heres there reply... looks like there is hope on the horizon after-all...


Hi all... just an inquiry from a happy customer,

is there a bluetooth replacent for the curly pro plug lead on the horizon fellas, I really would like to get rid of the lead ..

or as a second option... have you got a straight option available for this lead yet ???

Well you havent GOT to have her plugged in on the back Mack , you can just have the radio to chat with your mates if you likes

Your wife needs an intercom for that? ..Up North, wives don't fookin need intercoms mate.
