I think Taffy has already told you what it is ... ignition switch ... very common fault on them ... the heat thing is a red herring...

If it was mine the first purchase Id make would be ignition switch .... just because you cannot force it to fault dosent mean its good ..

chucking good money at it without doing the most common fault first is for me, not the way to go

so if we plump for the ignition as the source of the problem I take it its just the base with the wires that replaced, thus leaving the barrel and keys

automatic, take no notice of thr man. Hes a raving cnut of the highest order who cannot handle the power of a Blackbird, or the weight actually. Far too heavy for him to get out of ditches and stuff.

Ramo, calling Ramo or Cyclops. What was that fault you sorted the other week. ? Was it that connector block ( cant remember proper term for it) from the battery? Didnt you, after trying all sorts, take the block apart and physically clean down and shine up the spade connectors and voila, everything worked? Come on you two, wake the fook up.

After studying things I opted for a New one, then if all things equal if it is the problem and going on how old the bike is I should get another 13yrs out of it and if that's the case I will be an even older git then...

Hi, Just seen this

I have a spare inj ECU that I no longer need

I live in Sowerby bridge, close to you

Happy to ride over and see if it fixes your problem
If it does its yours!

I dont know if it will just swap over like the carb ones or if it will need reprogramming in some way?
Does anyone know?

Thanks

hi Grant

thanks for the kind offer, we have swapped the ecu off my bike onto a running bike and it behaved, out of interest do you have the keys that are coded to the ecu.

However the consensus in opinion that it may be the ignition switch that is the culprit, a new one arrived yesterday so just need some fine weather to strip the bike and fit the new one.

keep watching for the next riveting instalment lol

well quite a git of a job to get the bottom off the ignition switch, put the new one on fired it up, ticked over as sweet as a nut, had it running for nearly thirty minutes...thought cracked it, out it all back together I got 20yds up the road....same F......G fault, well pissed off to say the least.

I don't think the heat is anything to do with it any more...

The part of the ignition that has been replaced has new wires, these plug straight into the new wiring loom,

One thing I did find today was when you operate the front brake lever the clock light illuminates and the front sidelight comes on.. when i study the wiring loom all what's on the circuit is brake lights , hiss indicator light and side light but it disappears into the ECU...whilst I haven't been able to get the bike to cut out when I operate brake lights front and rear I wonder if it has something to do with it...I still have a strange feeling that ecu may be the culprit...but will check the cheaper options first..

Check the crank sensors and get the ECU off Grant.
Just in case...

The ECU needs to have the keys that are coded to it to bypass the HISS system, I posted the question but he may not have seen it, will give him a ring...

The wiring loom is brand new off the shelf from Honda, The loom fix was done on the old one and didn't resolve the issue

crank sensor and gasket on its way,

Going to get the ecu of Grant, obtain a new key blank with chip, take old key and new key apart and swap chips over, match to the new ecu and then we will see what happens
