FI problem. Any experts out there?

Postby T.Murphy aka Tim » Sat Jun 10, 2017 1:44 am

Been tarting/tidying up a Red Fuel Injected Burd, on and off, for quite some time.

(I know absolutely nothing regarding the FI/ECM system other than what Ive been reading today so it's all new for me)

Got to the stage today where it was time to connect battery and err, try electrics and actually fire her up.

However, with key in and ignition on I've got the RED FI light on, permanently. The engine will spin up but nothing.

Referring to the manual one of the possibilities for this is the Fuel Pump 30amp fuse. Anyone know where this is . Buggered if I can find it.

Help! :bigcry:

It depends on what Tim has disconnected / reconnected etc

Yes, was running ok prior to part strip down. Loom fix done by a very good solderer. Kill switch/sidestand fine....the engine spins over.

Cant access B.I.R.D anymore as you have now got to pay for the privilege of reading contributions on such "technical" issues/problems that were made freely in the past by Non Sponsors and Sponsors alike. Fekkin disgraceful AFAIC.

Ha! 'Morning Iain. You must've posted this whilst I was replying to Olddog  . :)

Have had everything disconnected basically whilst tidying her up. As I say, never looked at never mind worked on an FI Burd before now, so 'fuel pump prime?"? Err, no, cant hear fook all when I switch ignition on other than a faint click in one of the relays located just behind the battery.

Got that already, as well as the Haynes manual and the proper Honda Workshop Manual thanks and am getting well read up on the subject. However, if you re- read my Op properley, you will realise that I wont have much fookin chance of sorting should I skimpily read and not digest as much as you have done.! But thanks anyrode. xx

I'll repeat for the sake of clarity " Referring to the manual one of the possibilities for this is the Fuel Pump 30amp fuse. Anyone know where this is ? . Buggered if I can find it. "

Sorry Tim, I can't help with the fuse location but a common issue, if I remember correctly was grounding issues.
My mate had it and had to clean the frame area where the ground wires connect to.
I think there is a place you can put a piece of wire to act as a jumper that will flash up the problem in code on the dash. This is how he found he had a grounding issue in the first place. May be worth a try?
Sorry I can't be of any more help but it's been a while since I've seem an xx let alone worked on one.

Not sure if this will Help Tim
2 fuses the one under the red cover on the starter solenoid, and the other one in the separate fuse to the solenoid.
clear case next to the main fuse box.

I have got it sorted. Well, fekkin something up yourself is a good way of learning and finding your way around isnt it.! xx

After much head scratching and reading and more head scratching the Red Bird has finally breathed!

As I ssid, I couldnt hear the fuel pump prime and also couldn't initially find the "Fuel pump 30 amp fuse" Eventually found a 30 amp fuse other than the one near the battery and there was nothing wrong with it. Retraced my steps, identifying all the relays and sensors with ickle labels cos fook all is marked up. Then pulled them all off their mounts behind the battery to check the connections and what do I find?...The green plug from the bank sensor (on the far right of the row of relays looking forward) was buried underneath the wiring from the other relays and NOT CONNECTED to the green female plug coming off the wiring loom on the left! Connected it up but now Im left with a 'spare' relay . (I'd connected that initially to the green female plug mentioned earlier duh )

With it all back together the fuel pump primed as it should and after a few presses on the starter button she finally fired up :rockon)

Need a new CCT though as she sounds like a bag of 'ammers.

So, thanks all, for trying but it was all down to my fuckwittery. lol
