Postby Dark Angel » Sun Jun 26, 2022 5:42 pm

Got back yesterday after a great, two-week break in the Highlands.

On our way to our digs at Strathy Point Lighthouse we visited…

…did a bit of off-roading… :ride)

…and went on a day trip to the Orkneys…

I think I'm qualified to take this one - shiiiiite, in one word

we spent about 7 days in the Harz region, never saw a mountain, I think something was lost in translation

I hope you have recovered from your ordeal, you back riding yet mate?

I'll second Mister Majestic's emotion....the Harz was shite, have I said before that the Harz was shite? Mountains? Mountains my arse...the peak District is more scenic and rugged. On the tops in the Harz its mile after mile of larch forest..a lot of it dead due to climate change...the valley roads were just that, tree lined with not many oh wow views. Too many road works, Goslar was shite as blocked off, Quidlenburgh a lovely medieval town. The 85 road at kelbra with its 36 bends ...well Id prefer the Cat and Fiddle or the Alston road as theres more scenry than just bend after tree lined bend

A long way to go just for that....and the motorway shlepp across Holland and Germany in pissing down rain and same on the way back has definitely put the "Do Not Revisit" stamp on it!

There were some lovely places and roads though , perhaps we were spoiled by the Picos last year which really was the dog's danglies.
