Ahh, now there's a question isn't there?

On paper it was closed until the 14th of June so yes, I assume it is open now.

However, when I cycled up there with my lad on Thursday I didn't think it would be ready in time as there was quite a bit of work outstanding.

So, yes, it should be open, BUT, if it isn't when you get to the Glossop side, just ride between the big bollards and signs and enjoy it. There are only 4 small sections that were being repaired and all negotiable.

Which brings about a purely hypothetical question for the experts on here.


Supposing, somewhere in this country, a road has been temporarily closed due to maintenance work. If, just if, someone bypassed the signs, and entered the closed section of Her Majesty's Highway, riding a motor vehicle, for example and just for the sake of argument a Honda SuperBlackbird right?,...then where does that rider stand regarding traffic law?

Would he be in bother if for example a traffic helicopter that happened to be passing, ( well there wouldn't be a patrol car/camera van on a closed road would there) "copped" the hypothetical rider travelling at about 150 mph on the straight bit alongside Ladybower Reservoir? or couldn't they touch him? Or is the offence of taking a motor vehicle onto a closed highway, I take it there must be an offence, more or less serious than travelling at more than 3 times the speed limit ? Could you be done for breaking the speed limit on a closed road? Pure conjecture of course.
